LARK RISE

MDG Logo

TUESDAY 5 - 9 JUNE

at MOULTON VILLAGE HALL

Main Road, Moulton

‘Lark Rise’ is Moulton Drama Group’s play for the Jubilee week. It is set on a single day in the year of Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee. The story is told by a young girl, Laura, who recalls the characters and rural life of her Oxfordshire village, Lark Rise. We see, through her eyes, the way the men worked the fields, shared stories, sang and danced and the everyday lives of the women. We visit many of the colourful characters of her memory like Queenie, Twister, traveling tinkers, Old Sally the Goose Girl, soldier John Price  returning from the Sudan and Major Shaman, living in fear of the workhouse.

This adaptation of Lark Rise by Flora Thompson’s memories of her home and family is written as promenade. The audience will be invited to enter the village and follow, on foot, the journeys of Laura and her brother, Edmund, sharing in their food, drink and other experiences en route. For those who prefer to stay seated during the performance, we have seats on stage where you will also have a clear view of the action.

We very much hope you will support us in a play that, in a large cast, introduces a large number of new faces to the Moulton stage in a production including six actors from the award-winning ‘Ashton Hayes Theatre’

In our next two plays: ‘Lark Rise’ and ‘Blood Brothers’.  Mdg is is looking for actors and stage crew of all ages to get involved.  These plays offer the chance to take on singing, dancing and speaking roles and to be part of a large group of actors and back stage team.  All you need is enthusiasm.  Come along on Tuesday March 13th to find out more about ‘Lark Rise’, our Diamond Jubilee Celebration performance, to be staged in June; or email secretary@mdg.org.uk . We would look forward to talking to anyone who might be interested.

Moulton Drama Group is not just about putting on plays. We also arrange visits to other theatres, amateur and professional, as well as putting together events like our Barn Dance on Saturday, March 10th  There are still some tickets available for that event.

We are also planning to run some sessions on writing one act plays for the stage and radio.  Let us know if you are a budding writer who would like to take part in such activities.
